Description

This genuine madder lake red is a delightful soft pinky-red pigment that is very translucent and makes for good glazes.

The Madder root is ground in the mortar a pestle and is then processed through the traditional 19th century french Garance extraction method, the resulting crimson liquor is then laked to bring forth a delightful soft pink pigment. Our madder lake red is one of our most popular paints due its authentic and unique qualities.

Being a natural lake pigment it takes some wetting to get the paint going.

* This Watercolour Paint is prepared with our own ethically-sourced and hand-crafted Madder Lake Pigment *

* We use a mixture of historic and contemporary techniques to produce each pigment used in our paints *

The Method:

| We grind each pigment with a binder, which consists of the finest Gum Arabic, Organic Honey, Glycerin and Water.

| Over the course of 2-3 weeks, we pour the mixture into half-pans. This results in an exceptional quality paint with a truly unique colour experience.

| The Alchemical Arts uses historic and traditional methods when preparing our pigments. This makes for a very organic colour range with highly authentic results. Each pigment takes on its own unique subtleties, richness, handling and optical qualities.

Ingredients: Madder lake pigment, gum arabic, vegetable glycerin, honey

Please note: Due to the fact that each pigment is produced in small batches, there is the potential for minor variations in shade.
